avva, the narrator's grandmother was totally dependent on her granddaughter due to her lack of literacy. The granddaughter daily read her the story from the newspaper, which entertained the grandmother. Their relationship also took a parallel course when the granddaughter became the grandmother's guru and taught her how to read and write. This relationship was filled with respect as it should have been. It was beautiful to picturise them as grandma and her granddaughter while equally satisfactory to see them as guru and shishya
