I doubt predator species would go extinct or anything, but some would struggle to find other food sources. Fruit fly larva do help with the decomposition of organic matter, but so do lots of other species. The biggest impact to humans would actually be in the study of genetics. Because fruit flies can produce multiple generations in one year, they are very useful in studying evolution and how genetic traits are passed down through generations. Mice and rabbits also reproduce very quickly, but they take an awful lot of resources to keep alive compared to fruit flies. Plus people don’t protest when fruit flies are used for scientific research like many do when mammals are used.
