The poet chooses the road which is ‘less travelled by’ and he says that has made all the difference. But he does not tell whether this difference was positive or negative. ‘Sigh’, in the first sentence of the last stanza, does not help either. Because sigh can be have both positive and negative connotation. For example:
With a heavy sigh, she headed for his house. It could be both positive and negative in its meaning. The tumultuous day at work is over and now she is headed for his house, which is a huge relief. Or it could mean that the party is over and now she has to go back to her dull routine, evidently disappointing.
The poet is only trying to point out we are the product of our decisions and every decision we make, however simple they may appear, have profound implications on our future. But many often interpret it to mean that we should, when faced with a situation like this, go for one which is not common- this is not really what the poet wishes to say.
