Describe 3 separation techniques of mixture and also draw the appropriate diagrams of it
Answers
Answer:
1. Handpicking
2. Sieving
3. Winnowing
4. Centrifugation
Explanation:
Techniques of separation:
1. Handpicking : (Refer Fig.1) Impurities like stones, soil present in wheat, pulses etc., can be separated by handpicking. The impurities are present in very few amounts. Their shape and colour are different from wheat, rice and dal. These impurities are separated by hand. This process is known as handpicking.
2. Sieving : (Refer Fig.2) Sieving is defined as a method in which two or more components of different sizes are separated from a mixture on the basis of the differences in their sizes. When flour is sieved before kneading impurities remain in the sieve.
3. Winnowing : (Refer Fig.3) The process of separation of lighter particles from heavier particles; with the help of wind; is called winnowing. Chaff is separated from the grains by winnowing as chaff is lighter than the grains. Farmers drop the mixture of wheat and husk from a height. The husk is carried by the wind and form a heap at a small distance away. The wheat grains being heavier fall vertically to form a separate heap.
4. Centrifugation : (Refer Fig. 4) Centrifugation is the process where a mixture is separated through spinning. It is used to separate butter and milk from curd. The curd is rotated in a circular direction. Buttermilk being heavier in weight goes downwards and lighter comes up.
