Palampur has about 450 families belonging to different castes.There are 80 upper caste families which own the majority of the land in the village.The SCs or the dalits comprise one - third of the population of the village , i.e. , there are about 150 dalit families living in palampur.The rest 220 families are either smallbfarmers and landless farm labourers or shopkeepers and other people engaged in non- farm production activities. It is well connected with the towns beside it as well as developed system of irrigation and electricity.
The small town Shahpur and the big village Raiganj are connected to Palampur. The main activity of Palampur is farming. However, they also engage in several activities such as dairy, small scale manufacturing and transport.
