A Dream of a Midsummer Night is a romantic comedy by William Shakespeare. It is concerned with the feelings of love and marriage, the rules of the time and the social order. The story contains fairies and other magical creatures which direct the mortals in the ways they think appropriate. This leads to several funny scenarios and human misfortunes. There are many characters in the play and, for the most part, each one is in love with one of the other characters

Explanation:

  • A midsummer night's dream is an example of Shakespearean comedy as he tells the story of multiple sets of lovers who must resolve challenges and misunderstandings before marriage and are fully united. Hermia and Lysander and Helena and Demetrius, the central characters of the play, begin with two classic obstacles of the comedy of Shakespeare: misdirected love and parents disapproval
  • The father of Hermia forbids her from marrying Lysander and demands that Demetrius marry her instead. Hermia is faced with death or exile under Athenian law if it disobeys her father. Helena loves Demetrius in the past, but Hermia is his passion now.
  • Lysander suggests to Hermia that they run away into the woods together. This is where the rest of the play takes place. Lysander and Hermia flee into the woods pursued by Demetrius who is being pursued by Helena. The lovers are once in the forest at the mercy of the fairies. Oberon, the King of the Feasts, plans to bring a potion of love on the Queen of the Feasts Titania. He will also give Demetrius a potion so that he can return Helena's  love , but his servant Puck can cast his spell, and it gets placed upon Lysander instead.
  • As couples enter the forest, these initial obstacles become confounding and complicated. The mistaken enchantments of the fairy Puck result in Helena loving Lysander and a breakthrough of the play's opening in both men, who love Helena.
  • But the misunderstanding was resolved by the next morning. The magic of Lysander was eliminated while the enchantment of Demetrius remained and the couples were content to be together for the first time. If Theseus overrule Hermia's dad's wish, the final obstacle is resolved, and the play ends, as do all Shakespearean comedies: with a marriage.
  • Like other comedies by Shakespeare, Midsummer focuses instead of their feelings on the condition of the characters. For example, Hermia and Lysander concentrate on a solution and make a hidden plan to escape in the first scene of the play, rather than in despair, as they are forbidden from being together.
  • Then King Oberon, a fairy confessed to Helena submitting to Demetrius and agreed to interfere as soon as Demetrius firmly rejected her. Two things cause uncertainty and trouble between lovers, as does the decision of lovers to join the forest and the decision of fairies to intercede in the lives of lovers.
  • As audience members, however, we never worry that the end result will be anything but pleasant because the play separates us from the agony of lovers due to fantastic circumstances and overworn words.. We are sure that we know how to patch the magical errors and restore the order, that the drama will unfold.
