When sunlight is passed through a prism ,it splits into seven colour. This phenomenon is called dispersion.A plane mirror can also be used to show dispersion.
A rainbow is seen when sun shines after the rain. Tiny drops of water suspended in the air acts as prism and disperse the sunlight forming a rainbow.
