Before Solving the Question, have a look over these important points :-

WHAT IS PURE SUBSTANCE?

A substance which is made up of a chemical bond and cannot be separated by physical separation is called a Pure substance.

E.g. All elements and compounds.

WHAT IS MIXTURE?

A mixture is a combination of two or more substances which can be easily separated by physical method of separation.

E.g. Salt solution and Sand And Iron filling.

DIFFERENT PHYSICAL PROCESS OF SEPARATION :-

  • Magnetic Separation

Separating substance by using force of magnet. Usually Iron fillings can be separate out by this method.

  • Filteration

This process is used to separate the insoluble substance from liquid. Like Sand from water.

  • Evaporation

The process in which liquid is converted into gas by use of heat is called Evaporation. Soluble particles can be separated from liquid by this process. like - Sugar and water.

  • Threshing and Winnowing

Winnowing is a way in which husk from grain by using force of wind.Threshing is a process in which the Substance is beaten on a rock to remove dust particle.

Now, we are in a position to Answer the Question ;

GIVEN :- Mixture of sand and salt.

To :- Separate each substance

METHOD :-

  1. Add water to the mixture of sand and water.
  2. Separate the Sand from that mixture by the process of filteration.
  3. Now, Evaporate the salt solution to obtain pure salt
  4. Both salt and sand get separated.
