Tryst with Peace and Beauty at Kufri

Keats has rightly said 'A thing of a beauty is a joy forever.' My first experience with something real beautiful happened, when in the last week of my summer vacation, father took the family to Kufri during the summer vacation.

The drive from Shimla to Kufri  was breathtaking and a real treat to the eyes. On either side of the serpentine road breathtaking vistas of unmatched sylvan beauty soothed not only the eyes, but the restive soul also. Deep dells, with pure verdant slopes; idyllic, pastoral human settlements, glimpses of the far off white sheep grazing on the slopes of the mountains under the canopy of azure sky are the enthralling views one gets as a gift for coming to this paradise. I did not want the drive to end. As we neared Kufri, the mountains became taller and taller. The peace, tranquility, and splendor of the hills and its surroundings were supernal.

My father had intentionally got a hotel booked at a place where the nature was abundant. From the room window, the distant snow clad white mountains gave the illusion as if we are in a different world. At night, first time in my life I saw the magnificence of the night sky.

There are quite a many places that we can visit while being in Kufri; we had so much fun climbing Mahusa Peak on horseback, we did skiing on the snow covered slopes, the go-carting fun at Kufri Fun World was just beyond words.

The hotel we stayed at provided all types of cuisine, so naturally we opted for the Punjabi cuisine. This stay in nature replenished and rejuvenated us thoroughly. I will cherish it for a lifetime.

Answer:

The Taj Mahal is the most magnificent building in India. It is called ‘one of the seven wonders of the world.” It was built by the Moghul Emperor Shah Jahan in the sweet memory of his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal. Twenty thousand workmen including some European masons worked day and night for twenty years to build it. It cost the Emperor several crores of rupees.

I had a keen desire to visit this famous building of the world. At last the day came when my long-cherished desire turned into reality. Last year I had an occasion to attend the marriage of a friend of mine. This gave me a chance to see this master-piece of artistic design. As I came close to it, I was struck by its unique structure. It is a marvel in marble. We went to the underground room where Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal lie buried. Our minds went back to the times of Shah Jahan when he built this building at a high cost.

The Taj is surrounded by a cypress garden on three sides. It is situated on the bank of the river Jamuna which lends charm to its beauty. The surroundings and the garden and lustre to its architecture. The beauty of the Taj beggars description.

In the moonlit night, its glory and splender become unique. It is an intoxication and a delight to watch this marvelous feat of workmanship in a full moonlight night. I have seen several buildings but none presents such a glorious view. It is matchless in beauty.

Some historians have named it “the crown of the world.” Someone has rightly called it a ‘poem in marble.’ In short, it is a paradise on earth. It is a thing of beauty and a joy forever. The crimson rays of the sun at the time of sunset, enhance its beauty and glory.

My joy knew no bounds on seeing this wonderful building. Its memory will always remain fresh in my mind. My knowledge about the Taj is now first hand. It is quite different form the second hand information which I had got from my books.

I also visited some other historical buildings in Agra Fort. It is a huge buildings that reminds the visitors of the lofty grandeur and the glory of the great Moghul Kings. I then went to Fatehpur Sikri where I saw the famous Buland Darwaza, the Panch Mahal and many other buildings. All these magnificent structures made a deep impression on me but there is nothing to match the beauty of the Taj.

I was reminded of the English lady who, on seeing the Taj, had said to her husband,” If you promise to build a monument like the Taj in my memory, I am ready to die right now.”

Last summer vacations, I visited a historical city, Delhi. It was an adventurous and exciting experience. We went to Delhi by train wherein, we first went to our grandparent's house and then we rested for a few hours. Delhi has been known by different names during different periods. In an ancient period it was known as Indraprastha, medieval times it was known as Tughlaqabad. In Delhi, there are many monuments which are known for its history. There is the Red Fort, Jama Masjid, Humayun Tomb, Jantar Mantar and Qutub Minar which makes the Delhi rich is history and glorious past of India is narrated through these monuments. Whereas, there are many wonders of modern time such as Rashtrapati Bhawan, parliament, Lotus temple and so forth.

Delhi's landmark is Red Fort which is built on the bank of Yamuna River. Shahjahan built the red fort, wherein he had a meeting with the public in one of its portion. Also, in modern time the prime minister of India hosts the flag of India at the red fort on every independence day.

Another major landmark of Delhi is India Gate which was built in the memory of soldiers who lost their lives during the first world war. India Gate is extended into the greater area and has become the picnic spot for people and tourists. Lastly, Delhi has become a major tourist attraction point as it is developed with the metro rails, museums, and center of shopping. Visiting Delhi was a very fascinating experience
