Take a jar fitted with a single holed stopper and having a sanction pump. Place an electric bell inside.Join it with a battery and switch it on. You hear the bell to ring. Now make vacuum inside by taking out air through the sanction pump.Switch on the bell again. You do not hear it .
Conclusion: Sound needs medium to propagate and hence cannot travel in vacuum.
