• In the bromine water test, the but-1-ene changes from orange to colorless.

• Whereas, the cyclobutane remains neutral.

• Bromine water is mainly an orange solution of bromine. It converts colorless when it is mixed with an alkene. Alkenes can decolorize bromine water, but alkanes cannot.
