The term "connective tissue" (in German, Bindegewebe) was introduced in 1830 by Johannes Peter Müller. The tissue was already recognized as a distinct class in the 18th century.
Connective tissues are tissues that help to connect various parts in our body. the cells in this tissue are loosely spaced in intercellular matrix. matrix can have different mediums like jelly, fluid, rigid etc.
There are 7 types of connective tissues
Blood
Matrix- Plasma ( contains protiens salts and hormones)
Suspended cells- RBCs WBCs and platelets
Bone-
Matrix-Rigid ( contains calcium and phosphorus)
It anchors muscles and helps in movement
Ligament-
Connects two bones
Have little matrix which is elastic and has considerable strength
Tendons-
Connects muscles to bones
Fibrous
Limited flexiblity
Highly rigid
Cartilage-
Smooth bones
Present in nose and ears where bending id possible
Areolar-
Found between skin and muscles and around blood vessels, nerves and bone marrow
Adipose-
Prestent under the skin
stores fat
