Parthenium hysterophorus is a species of flowering plant in the aster family, Asteraceae. It is native to the American tropics. Common names include Santa-Maria, Santa Maria feverfew, whitetop weed, famine weed, and congress weed.

Parthenium hysterophorus is a poisonous weed found in America, Africa, Australia and in some parts of Asia. This weed poses some harmful effects to both humans and live stock. Its contribution in causing respiratory diseases  and skin allergies has been seen.

Considering its allelopathy nature, its growth has been reduced and restricted. Moreover, It has been seen that this weed also has some medicinal properties such as, it is a remedy against inflammation, diarrhoea, urinary tract infections etc.
