"The plan for India's first power plant for nuclear was proposed to be built at Rajasthan RAPP-1 and the agreement was signed in the year 1963, after which another nuclear power plant's (RAPP-2) agreement was signed in 1966. These reactors had proper safeguard protocols to ensure that they will not be used for a military program. RAPP began operating in 1972. Afterwards, its power generation capacity was downsized from 100 MW to 200 MW. It was only due to the arms race for nuclear military power among nations that India later conducted its first nuclear bomb testing in Pokhran, Rajasthan.
United Nations and more specifically, United States warned India of the economic sanctions that would be put against it if it performs atomic bomb testing. However, it was quite hypocritical move on part of US to warn others from attaining something which it had in bundles.
So, India became a Nuclear power, but, still it has never threatened any nation on the basis of nuclear weapons and continues to maintain the ever-peaceful stance."
