JJ Thomson was the first scientist to propose a model for the structure of an atom. His model of atoms was similar to Christmas pudding. The electron in a sphere of positive charge, were like currants in a spherical Christmas pudding. It can be compared to a watermelon in which the positive charge of atom is spread all over like the red edible part, while the electrons studdded in the positively charged sphere, like the seeds in the watermelon.
Postulates of Thomson:
1,Electrons are embedded in the sphere of positive charge.
2.The mass of an atom is assumed to be uniformly distributed throughout the atom.
3.Negative and positive charge are equal in magnitude.Therefore atom is wholly electrically neutral.
