Thyroid Gland- It is a ductless gland or endocrine gland means these glands pour their secretion directly into the blood. It's lobes are made with connective tissue.
Position- It is a medium gland or largest endocrine gland which is located in the neck between the trachea and the larynx.
Shape- The shape of thyroid gland is like English Letter 'H'. It is bilobed (means having two lobes) in birds and mammals.
Origin- It originates from Endodermal part.
Functions-
• It controls or regulates the basal metabolic rate of human body which is generally known as BMR.
• It is required for the development of the nerve fibre.
• It increases the catabolism and anabolism of the proteins.
• It also increases the sugar level.
