Vinoba Bhave
Vinoba Bhave was born on 11 September 1895 in the village of Gagoda, Maharashtra. His real name was Vinayak.
He was spiritual visionary and become a symbol for the struggle of 'good against evil' and for the spiritual against the ordinary.
He gave up his high school studies in 1916 and became an enthusiastic follower of Gandhiji. He led a rigorous life, dedicated to improving the life of Indian villagers.
Bhave was jailed several times between 1929 and 1930 for his anti-government activities. He led the non violent resistance yo the British Raj, fir which he served a 5 year prison sentence in the 1940s. He was given the title of 'acharya' (teacher). He was a social reformer and founded the 'Bhudan Yajna' or land gift movement in 1951. He appealed to rich land owners to donate land to landless untouchables or harijans.

- Bhave was the founder of the Bhoodan Yajna (“Land-Gift Movement”). Born of a high-caste Brahman family, he abandoned his high school studies in 1916 to join Gandhi's ashram (ascetic community) at Sabarmati, near Ahmadabad. Gandhi's teachings led Bhave to a life of austerity dedicated to improving Indian .
