The agents which transfer pollen grain from the anther of one plant to the stigma of another is known as agents of pollination. For example : insects, wind etc.

Cross pollination in some plants is achieved by some external agency.

Plants use two type of ABIOTIC (wind and water) and BIOTIC (animals) agents to perform pollination.

The biotic agents are used by majority of plants while only a small proportion of plants use abiotic agents, In case of a-biotic agents pollinated plants, the pollen grains are produced in very large amount as compared to the number of ovules available for pollination because pollen grains coming in contact with stigma is a chance factor and there factors and there is a lot of wastage of pollen grains.
