The Department of Agriculture is setting up a network of agro service centres to provide labour support, planting material, fertilizers, and organic pesticides to farmers.

The project is aimed at ensuring efficacy of agricultural extension activities and production methods.

The focus would be on mechanisation of farming, promotion of group farming, and encouraging the youth to take to agricultureTo be registered under the Charitable Societies Act, the centres will also provide technical advice and agromet information to farmers.

Each centre will have a labour force attached to it. In the initial phase, the government will provide equipment, operational funds, and expert training to 15 persons through the Kerala Agricultural University.

The pilot phase of the Rs.120-lakh project will cover 35 blocks. As many as 14 model agro service centres will be set up by the university, one in each district.
