So, mansabdar were given a piece of area of which they were supposed ro take revenue from it. For examples, if Todarmal was given Gowaliar, his family would be living there but not Todarmal himself as he would be there with Akbar only. So from that revenue, he would also get his own salary from that total. This method was also known as jagidars.
