The altocumulus clouds belong to the stratocumuliform physical category of clouds. They are mid - level, greyish white with one part darker than the other. They are less puffy than the usual fair weather cumulus clouds but retain a common cotton ball shape. They are formed at altitudes between 2000 and 6000 meters.
