for electrolytic refining of copper first in this process we need an impure metal which is made of anode and then a pure metal which is made of cathode or solution of metals or which is used as an electrolyte on passing the current through the electrolyte the pure metal from the anode dissolves in the electrolyte an equivalent amount of pure metal from the electrolyte is deposited on the cathode and the soluble impurities go into the solution whereas insoluble impurities settle down at the bottom of the anode and are known as anode mud this process is called electrolytic refining of copper we can do it with any other metal also

we have to use electrolysis to perform electrolytic refining of copper
we need impure copper rod and a pure copper rod take a beaker of 500 ml put impure copper rod on the anode and pure copper rod on the cathode used DC current as a source for even disposition of copper open the circuit you can see the separation of copper from the particular metal hence we can obtain pure copper metal on the cathode
