Answer:

a) describe an activity to demonstrate the magnetic field line around a straight current carrying conductor. state the rule to determine the direction of magnetic field. (b)- describe an activity to demonstrate the magnetic field line around a circular loop. state the rule to determine the direction of magnetic field. (c)- describe an activity to demonstrate the force acting on a current carrying conductor placed in magnetic field. state the rule to determine the direction of force.

1. The Magnetic field lines around a straight conductor carrying current are concentric circles whose centres lie on the wire. The direction of magnetic field lines can be determined using Right-Hand Thumb Rule.

Factors affecting the strength of magnetic field around a straight current carrying conductor

1. Magnetic field strength is directly proportional to the magnitude of current flowing in the conductor. i.e. B∝I, greater the current in the conductor, stronger will be the magnetic field produced.

2. Magnetic field strength is inversely proportional to the distance from the wire i.e. B∝1r, greater the distance from the current carrying conductor, weaker will be the magnetic field.

Magnetic Field from Electrical Current

Demonstrates that a magnetic field is produced by electric current.

2. The magnetic field lines are concentric circles at every point of a current carrying circular loop. The direction of magnetic field of every section of the circular loop can be found by using the right hand thumb rule.

At the centre of the circular loop, The magnetic field lines are straight.

Each segment of circular loop carrying current produces magnetic field lines in the same direction with in the loop.

The direction of magnetic field at the centre of circular coil is perpendicular to the place of the coil. i.e. along the axis of the coil.

Factors affecting the strength of magnetic field

1. The magnitude of magnetic field is directly proportional to the magnitude of current through the loop. i.e. B∝I.

2. The magnitude of magnetic field is inversely proportional to the radius of the circular loop. i.e. B∝1r.

The following video explains the magnetic field pattern around a circular coil carrying current.

3. - Fleming’s left hand rule.

Hold the thumb and the first two fingers of your left hand mutually at right angles to each other . Then if the Forefinger points in the direction of the Field, and the second finger in the direction of the Current, the thumb will point in the direction of Force.
