When we add HCl (Hydrochloric acid) in the water then ions are generated in the form of H+.

Now to know that ions are generated, we put the electrodes we can see that the current is generated.

The current can be traced by adding an ammeter in the circuit.

However, HCl does not produce ion if water is replaced with any other organic liquid.

In this case ammeter will not show any trace of ion.
