AIM: To show that solutions of salts in water can conduct electricity.
MATERIALS REQUIRED:
- Glass Bowl
- Salt
- Water
- 3 Voltage Battery
- Crocodile Clips (2)
- Switch
- Wire
- LED bulb
PROCEDURE:
- Take a bowl of water.
- Now make the circuit connecting with wires in the following order:
Crocodile clip - Battery - Switch - LED Bulb - Crocodile clip.
- Connect the crocodile clip inside the pure water and observe what happens to the LED.
- Now mix a table spoon of salt in the bowl and observe what happens.
OBSERVATION:
- In the bowl filled with pure water, the bulb does not glow.
- In the bowl filled with salt water the bulb glows.
CONCLUSION:
Pure water is a bad conductor of electricity and salt water is a good conductor of electricity.
