Experiment:

AIM: To show that solutions of salts in water can  conduct electricity.

MATERIALS REQUIRED:

  • Glass Bowl
  • Salt
  • Water
  • 3 Voltage Battery
  • Crocodile Clips (2)
  • Switch
  • Wire
  • LED bulb

PROCEDURE:

  • Take a bowl of water.
  • Now make the circuit connecting with wires in the following order:

Crocodile clip - Battery - Switch - LED Bulb - Crocodile clip.

  • Connect the crocodile clip inside the pure water and observe what happens to the LED.
  • Now mix a table spoon of salt in the bowl and observe what happens.

OBSERVATION:

  • In the bowl filled with pure water, the bulb does not glow.
  • In the bowl filled with salt water the bulb glows.

CONCLUSION:

Pure water is a bad conductor of electricity and salt water is a good conductor of electricity.
