I will try to demonstrate 3 activities which can show that sound is produced by vibration of materials.

From molecular point of view usually sound is produced by the vibration of the surface electrons which will tend to generate a pressure wave in the surrounding medium leading to propagation of the sound.

1st activity:

You can struck a tuning fork on a cork plate , and softly touch the surface.

You will be able to feel the vibrations.

The frequency of vibrations will be indicated by the number on the side of the tuning fork.

2nd activity:

You can use metallic bells used in pujas in our homes.

You can struck it with another metal and again touch the sides.

Faint vibrations can be felt.

3rd activity:

You can touch the front of the amplifier speakers while music is being played.

Strong vibrations can be felt on the surface.

These activities can show that molecular vibrations cause sound.
