Sound needs a medium to travel can be explained by the fact that in a vacuum chamber no sound would be passed.

Explanation:

  • Sound waves travel through the air and this is how the sound is passed on. Sound waves can pass through any medium, like water, air, wood, steel, ice, and others.
  • Channels of these mediums can be constructed and sound can be measured to be passed on.
  • If a channel can be created with a vacuum inside, then it can be witnessed that the sound waves fail to pass on and no sound can be transferred.
