When current passes through a wire magnetic field is produced in the surrounding area of wire. It can be explained using following experiment.
Experiment:
Take a cardboard and pass a wire through it. After that place compasses at equal distance from the wire. Then, pass current through that wire. The compasses will arrange themselves showing direction from north to south. Hence, by this experiment we can realize the presence of magnetic field. It also explains that the magnetic field around a current carrying wire is circular.
