At first, water is taken in a small bowl and 10-12 drops of food color are added to it.

Thereafter a cut a stem of a plant at 45-degree angle and let it submerge overnight.

In the morning you will find that the color of the stems, as well as the leaves and flowers, have changed into the color of the dye.

It is due to the capillary action of the plant which carries up water to various parts of it.

• Place in a jar of water

• Add food colouring or Dye. Choose a darker shades of food colouring or dye.

For example, Blue or red and a light coloured leaf.

• -The experiment is to be conducted in a location where the setup is undisturbed for several days.

This is done as the colouring moves through the leaf slowly and these changes must be noted each day including the order of movement.

• -The dye fills the larger xylem first, as it carries nutrients and provide procure the leaf, which splits into smaller phloem tubes and distribute nutrients all over the plant.
