Take a straight wire AB and pierced it through a horizontal cardboard such that wire AB is vertical. 2. The ends of the wire AB are connected to a battery. ... The iron fillings arrange themselves in concentric circles around the wire!

Take a cardboard and a straight current carrying conductor (name MN). Attach ammeter, switch and battery to the conductor so that current will flow. Again, add some iron fillings on the cardboard. After switching ON we will observe that when current passes through conductor it attracts the iron fillings and forms uniform concentric circles.

Thus, formatin of concentric circles when current is passed shows that there is presence of magnetic field around the conductor.

This is also called as Magnetic effect of Electric Current.
