the growth of a plant in response to light is known as phototropism.

If a plant is kept near the only open window of a dark room, after few days it can be found that the growth of the plant tip is towards the window and the plant is growing by bending itself towards the light source. This proves that light is responsible for the bending of the branch.

The growth of plant part in response to water is known as hydrotropism.

Take pot filled with soil and a plant. Place a clay pot filled with water inside it. Do not water the plant for few days. After few days it is observed that the roots of the plant are growing towards the clay pot for the source of water.
