describe an experiment for germinating seeds can respire in total absence of air
Answers
1. Production Of Heat:
Take two thermos flasks and mark them According to ur needs such as Flask A And B.
Take about 200 seeds and soak them in water for 24 hrs for sure.
Now.. Divide the seeds into two. Boil one of the group of seeds and then wash them away with carbolic acid to prevent bacterial decay..
So, now put live seeds in flask A and dead in B.
Insert a thermometer in each flask and plug them with cotton. After few hrs Flask A will show a high reading of temperature. And B wont show any.
Thus proven.
2. Production Of CO2:
Take two flasks A or B. Place some cotton that is wet at the bottom of each.
Soaked seeds are to be placed in A and Dead Seeds in B.
Use some antiseptic for Flask B to prevent Decay for sure.
After a few days, A flask Seeds will have germinated whereas B Doesn't.
Now to check the process... Take a test tube filled with lime water and invert flask A into it.
Results are that lime water turns milky and Flask B did nothing to the same experiment.
Thus Proven.
3. Can respire in total absence of air:
Take 8 or 10 soaked and peeled off peas and place them inside mouth of a test tube filled with mercury and invert it in a trough filled with mercury.
After 2, 3 days the level of mercury in test tube will fall and the liberated gas that is CO2 will be present.
Thus proven....
Hope it helps
