An experiment is:

At first you take metal container with only one side open and assert an air pump. Then you pump out the air from the inside of the contaner.

You'd see the contaner has crumpled.

It means the surrounding air had applied enough pressure around the container. There was no air inside it to balance the pressure thus the container had crumpled.

This is a prove that air exerts pressure from all directions.
