  • Take an iron nail.
  • Keep it in wet cotton exposed to air.
  • Rusting takes place showing that air and moisture are necessary for rusting. - Electrochemical oxidation of iron with oxygen is called rusting.

Answer:

Take 3 test tube.Fill 1 test tube with oil. 2nd with water with a layer of CaCO3 above it. 3rd with simple tap water.

No put one one iron nail in each test tube. After few times u will observe that iron nail in test tube 3 has rust while the rest 2 iron nails have not been rust because

  1. in the 1st test tube there is oil which does not have moisture
  2. in the second test tube there us a layer of CaCO3 which does not allow moisture to enter

So therefore we conclude that both moisture and water is essential for rusting
