I think it is an antacid.
NaHCO3 or Sodium Hydrogen Carbonate(baking soda)/(sodium bicarbonate) is the compound and when an acid reacts with it the following reaction takes place:

NaHCO3 + H+ ions from any acid gives CO2 + H2O + Sodium salt of that acid.
