Bell jar experiment:

This experiment  mainly proves that sound needs a medium to propagate.

The materials needed for this experiment are, bell jar electric bell and a vacuum pump.

First we should take two setups A and B. In A we have an electric bell that is in a bell jar. In B we have a bell jar with an electric bell in it and additionally a vaccum pump that helps in removing air present in the jar.

Now in both the setups the electric bell is on. we can observe that the sound is mainly produced from A but In B we cant hear the sound of the electric bell due to the absence of air as the vaccum pump has sucked the air from the bell jar.

From this we can conclude that sound needs a medium for tranporting sound waves.
