Major Characters:
1.Griffin: Griffin is an obsessed scientist who ultimately succeeds in discovering the formula towards invisibility. But somehow he has failed to invent a way back to invisibility. We come to know about Griffin from the very first chapter of the novel. He seems mysterious to both the readers and to Mrs Hall, the hostess at the Coach and Horses. Gradually we come to know that he is actually an invisible man. The chapters describe how desperately Griffin tries to save himself from being caught by the villagers of Iping. He steals from the vicarage and the villagers could guess that it must the deed of the mysterious invisible man. Later in the book, when Griffin accidentally comes across Dr Kemp, we come to know about the story behind his invisibility and the struggles he has gone through. Despite finding himself unacceptable as an invisible man, Griffin does not seem to give up in his pursuit of personal gain. He now plans to make Kemp his accomplice and go about spreading a reign of terror in England. He is ultimately caught and killed towards the end of the novel.
2. Dr Kemp: We come across Kemp towards the middle of the novel. He happens to be one of Griffin's mates in university. Kemp too is a scientist. But Kemp is seen to have some sense unlike Griffin. He happens to use science for the benefit of man and is surprised at the ways Griffin has been successful in overcoming his hurdles. He is an intelligent man who guesses Griffin's motive and keeps him engaged in conversation and ultimately leads to Griffin's capture.
3. Mr.Thomas Marvel: Though seemingly unimportant, he marks the gradual change that takes place in Griffin's character. Griffin uses Marvel to help him get into the Coach and Horses to collect the books and clothes that he had left there. Marvel is a poor tramp who is not happy with his present life and is looking for more. Like Griffin he has no home of his own and so he attracts Griffin's attention. Slowly he becomes the victim of Griffin's criminal plans. Marvel is seen to be threatened by Griffin but he ultimately succeeds in giving Griffin the slip.
Minor characters like Mrs Hall, Mr Hall, Cuss, Teddy Henfrey and the Buntings are rustic characters whose dialogues and deeds reveals that sensation created by the knowledge of an invisible man going on a rampage in their locality.
