Yes ,Antonio was melancholic in nature as we saw in the novel "Merchant of Venice" that Antonio was suffering from the debt which was owed from Shylock (the main villain in the novel) .According to the bond ,Antonio has to give one pound of his flesh from his chest. & Thus, it was a big burden on Antonio's shoulder that he has to pay the debt i.e 3,000 Ducats and if he does not pay then he has to give his one pound of flesh. That's why in the whole novel we saw that Antonio is melancholic in nature which means long lasting sadness .
