The five characteristics of the Great Himalayas are;

(a) The northernmost range of the Himalayas is called the Inner Himalayas or Great Himalayas or the ’Himadari’.
(b) it is the most continuous range, consisting of some of the loftiest peaks like Mt. Everest, Kanchanjunga etc. The Inner Himalayas contain all the high peaks. The average height is 6000 m.
(c) The core of the Himalayas is made up of granite.
(d) The folds of the Inner Himalayas are asymmetrical.
(e) They are permanently covered with snow and ice. Many rivers and glaciers come down from this range.
