Answer:
The five features of caste system are as follows-
1. inherited: An individual's caste rank is decided only by his heredity, i.e. the caste into which he is born. No personal achievements or efforts may change his caste rank.
2. Endogamy: Its endogamous nature absolutely forbids intercaste marriages. As a result, a person born into a lower caste can never aspire to marry into a higher caste. Each person is expected to marry within his or her caste and sub-caste. Marrying outside one's caste creates a person or 'without a caste, which is the lowest group even lower than Shudra'.
3. Organizational: The caste system is based on a hierarchy of superiority and servitude. According to the Hindu caste system. Brahmin is at the top, followed by Kshatriya, Vaishya, and Shudra.
4. Fixed Occupations: Members of any caste are required to take up occupations associated with their caste. The occupation under the caste system is specific, having originated from the Varna system; hence, the blacksmith continues his father's work, the son of the carpenter becomes a carpenter, and so on.
5. Inability to move vertically: There is no movement of caste members up or down the social rank ladder in a caste system. A person's lifetime status is determined by his birth status.
6. Religious Beliefs Reinforce the Caste System: Religious beliefs have played a crucial part in making the caste system inescapable. Religion has regarded Brahmin as sacred, and he is associated with reverence and awe. Such rigidity is unsustainable in the absence of religious backing.
