Federalism refers to a system of government in which the power is divided between a central authority and various constituent units of the country.

Five main features of federalism are as follows :

1. Their are two or more levels of government.

2. These levels have their own Jurisdiction, that is the area over which some one has legal authority.

3. Their jurisdiction are constitutionally guaranteed.

4. For changing any provisions of constitution their is required consent of the levels of the government.

5. Sources of revenue for each level of government are clearly specified to ensure its financial autonomy.
