Salient features :
(i) Sovereign : People are masters and have supreme right to take decisions.
(ii) Socialist : Wealth to be shared equally.
(iii) Secular : It is based on the freedom of religion. All religions should be treated equally.
(iv) Democratic : People have political equality.
(v) Republic : Head of the state is a common man indirectly elected by the people.

Constitution of India:
- At a given time and fixed date, a written constitution rules are framed and enter into force as a document.
- Parliamentary democracy: India has a parliamentary democracy.
- Fundamental rights and duties: The Constitution provides six fundamental rights. Our constitution added these fundamental duties according to 42nd amendment.
- Integrated Single Judiciary: India has only one integrated judicial system. In this system, the apex court is considered as the apex court. Below are the high court's controlling and overseeing the lower court.
- Single citizenship: Indians have only one citizenship which means that every Indian is a citizen of India regardless of his/her place of residence or place of birth. All citizens belong to India.
