One of the most humorous incidents in the novel Three Men In A Boat is the incident of Uncle Podger trying to hang a frame on the wall. Narrator narrates how his uncle makes a mess of everything he takes in his hands. Uncle podger has a very high opinion of himself that he can do any task with perfection. One of the incident took place when the narrator had a visit to him. They had to hang a frame on the wall and Uncle said that he can do it without anybody's help. When he started with it first he asks someone for a scale, other for a hammer and so on. Then he asked one girl to go and ask for nails and sent a boy after her to tell her the size of it. When he finally started the task after involving everyone, he dropped the frame and hurt himself and then asked everyone for his coat as he kept his handkerchief in it. When no one was able to find it he shouted on them and then he got up and found that he was actually sitting on his coat. When finally the frame was hung, it look very shabby with hole and marks on the wall. On this note the narrator said that Uncle Podger was a very messy man and how this incident was so funny.
