Three demands of Sri Lankan Tamils were:

1. Their language i.e. the Tamil should be given equal status with that of the Sinhala language.
2. Their should be no discrimination between them and the Sinhala residents of Sri Lanka in case of government jobs and university posts.
3. Their religion whether Hinduism or Christianity should be equally respected with that of Buddhism.
