Led by Lech Walesa, on 14th August, 1980 in Gdansk, the workers of Lenin's Shipyard organized a strike, where main demands of the workers were:

(i) Take back the dismissed crane operators.

(ii) Right to form independent trade unions.

(iii) Release of political prisoners.

(iv) End to censorship on Press.

An agreement was signed where the government conceded the workers demands and they formed an independent trade union of Poland solidarity, which came to power after winning the elections in 1990, Lech Walesa being the the President.
