Three rainwater harvesting systems followed by Indian people are as follows:
1. Guls or Kuls: In the mountainous regions of India people make diverging channels such as Guls or Kuls.
2. Underground Tankas: In some regions of Rajasthan such as Bikaner, Phalodi and etc; people build underground tankas in their houses. Each tanka can be as big as a big room. The roof is connected to the tankas through pipes. First rain shower is not collected as it contains many impurities. The subsequent showers are collected and this water is used by the people for the whole season.
3. Tamil Nadu: Tamil Nadu is the only Indian state which made the rainwater harvesting system compulsory for all the citizens. And it has punishments for the defaulters.
