1. Black soil is also called 'regur' soil and it is best suited for cotton cultivation. 
2. It is formed by the weathering of Deccan lava and is found in major parts of Maharashtra, western Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Rajasthan.
3. Black soil has high water-retaining capacity, and is extremely firm when wet; it develops deep, wide cracks on drying.
