Following were the three major problems faced by the peasant of Awadh during the days of the non co-operation movement:

1. In Awadh, the talukdars and landlords extracted very high rents and variety of other cesses from the peasants.

2. The peasants also had to do 'begar' labour for the landlords and work on their farms without any renumation.

3.There was no security of tenue and peasant were often evicted, in order to deny any opportunity for them to develop a right over the land they cultivated.
