Three problems faced by French in sphere of education in Vietnam are :-

i. Even though French wanted an educated labour force, they didn't want to educate them so much that the colons' jobs would be endangered and Vietnamese question their rule.

ii. The French wanted to remove the Chinese influence amongst the Vietnamese elites. They believed imposing a different language was the way to do so.

iii. Some wanted French to be imposed to introduce Vietnamese to French culture. But others wanted Vietnamese to be taught in lower classes and French in higher classes.
