Critics claim the Indian form of secularism as "pseudo-secularism". Supporters state that any attempt to introduce a uniform civil code, that is equal laws for every citizen irrespective of his or her religion, would impose majoritarian Hindu sensibilities and ideals.

Several critics of Indian secularism maintain that given the pervasive role of religion in the lives of the Indian people, secularism, defined as the separation of politics or the state from religion, is an intolerable, alien, modernist imposition on the Indian society.
Explanation:
The reasons why Indian secularism is subject to strong criticism are
- Anti-religious: Secularism is often claimed to be anti-religious. We claim to have shown that secularism rejects institutionalized religious law. It's not the same thing as being unfaithful. Similarly, others have suggested that religious identity is under pressure from secularism. Although secularism encourages tolerance and dignity of religion, it is also at time anti-religious , i.e. undermine some religion identity forms t to be violent, dogmatic, exclusivity & those foster hatred of other religions.
- Western Import: Secularism is considered to be a westernised concept & is related to Christianity, and thus not adapted to Indian circumstances, . The truth is that secularism originates from both the west & non-west. In the West, the independence of the Church from the State was the key, and in places like India there were essential concepts about the peaceful coexistence of various religious groups.
- Minoritism: Secularism is "charged" with "minoritism", however it is about treating the other individuals with reverence and dignity. .This is not to grant them preferential consideration or give them and "special treatment". This is about treating all people with the same respect &dignity. The point is that minority rights must not be treated as exclusive advantages nor must they be viewed as "special privileges."
- Vote Bank Politics: It is claimed that secularism promotes voting banks' politics. It is unjust to accuse a candidate for having selected a group of voters or assuring to initiate a plan with the intention to "secure their votes". If "secular politicians" who seek votes of minorities also give them what they need, then this is a secular project success that aims to safeguard the minorities' interest.
- Interventionist: Secularism is "oppressive & unnecessarily' interferes with the freedom of worship in societies. Indian secularism follows the principled distance concept that allows for non-interference. In fact, intrusion does not involve coercive action immediately.
- Impossible Project: Secularism does not succeed because it tries too hard to solve an insistent problem. Far from the pure objective nature of Indian secularism, it represents the world's future.
